How to get there

Cabana Paulownia is in the wild natural woods of Maramures. It can be access only by car. There are 2 km of stone road with the last 300 meters not being in the best condition depending on the weather. During winter and rainy days, the ground can be very muddy so be prepared with proper shoes.

By car, drive to the village of Budesti – Maramures and follow the indications towards the Monastery Constantin si Elena. 900 meters before arriving to the Monastery you will see a path on your left, take it. After 200 meters you will find the cabin on the right.

Things to do around

The Cabana is located in one hectare of land in the village of Budesti, in the heart of Maramures (Romania). There are plenty of interesting things to see nearby. For example, the wooden churches (listed by the UNESCO as World Heritage Sites); the famous Merry Cemetery (whose colorful tombstones leave nobody indifferent); or the outstanding Monastery of Barsana.

The Cabana is also near to Ocna Sugatag, famous for its salty miraculous waters and lakes. The wooden Monastery “Sfintii Imparati Constantin si Elena” is located only 10 minutes walk from the Cabana. In the nearby villages you can also find traditional washing machines made of wood, used by people from Maramures.

In Sighetu Marmatiei there are several museums. For example, a huge communist prison and a memorial museum; the Maramures village museum, a very interesting place outdoors where you can see real traditional houses from the region.

In summer you can go hiking in one of the tracks around the cabin. In winter, the ski slopes from Cavnic are perfect for a day-trip. You can also go on a sleigh ride down the hills right next to the Cabana. We promise you it will be fun!
